New EDS board convenes

In early October the newly-elected European Desalination Society board convened at its new headquarters at the Campus Bio-Medico University in Rome.

The board now includes members from Cyprus, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK. For the first time female representatives are in the majority, which reflects the current trend in the field of desalination. This is a huge and welcome change from a mere 20 years ago, when desalination conferences were mainly attended by male academics, industrialists, plant designers and operators. Having said that, EDS Secretary General, Miriam Balaban, has long been a prominent participant.

The President, Ian Lomax, presided over a successful meeting, which debated and resolved numerous issues. One of the topics discussed was the Sydney Loeb Award, which the EDS awards each year to a person who has made a significant contribution to the field of desalination. It can also be awarded posthumously. If you would like to nominate a colleague or associate, please email Ursula Annunziata, the EDS Vice President, at uannunziata@genesysro.com, or visit www.edsoc.com.
